Early May 2018: tulips along the walkway

2018 on the left, 2016 on the right: single blooms vs. multiple blooms. More comparisons follow for 2017 and 2018.

The Firespray tulips were disappointing in 2017, so we replanted about 30 or so in 2018. But the results (seen in some detail below) were not impressive.
The first two pictures show late April to early May 2018 and, below, two pictures from 2016; quite a decline since then.

Above, May 4, 2018. Below April 20, 2016

The pictures below show where tulips did not come up Spring 2017 (pictures taken 4/20/2017) and again in 2018 (mid to late May). The 2017 are the top row of each set.
By the time I got to taking the pictures, the 2018 blooms were long gone.

FIRST SET: 2017 above, 2018 below (pictures taken May 27, 2018)
Below, stems at #3 and #4 were new in 2018. #6 and #7 did not come up in '17 or '18; #8 was old, #9 was new in '18, 11-12 old.

SECOND SET: 2017 above, 2018 below. Little if any improvement: 19 is new in 2018, 20 blank both years,21 ok both years.

THIRD SET: 2017 above, 2018 below; again, little change--but 19 is new in 2018. #20 blank both years, 21 did not come back in 2018, 23-24 did

FOURTH SET: 2017 above, 2018 below. Little change but reslts are hard to compare. Maybe #16 is new in 2018.

FIFTH SET 2017 above, 2-17 below. This is the biggest improvement in 2018: #15, 16, 19, 21, and 23, 5 new ones in 2018.

SIXTH SET
2017 above, 2018 below, again showing marked improvement, several new blooms in 2018 at 1, 3, 5, 7, maybe 9.
After that, though, nothing either year except #14, which was there in 2017, did not reappear.

SEVENTH SET. 2017 above, 2018 below. No improvement in 2018. Picture below from 5/27/2018
