August 18: Uig, the northern coast, & Portree
and dinner at The Three Chimneys

At our rental house, High Tide, near Colbost (northwest coast of Skye), Thursday

The museum at Kilmuir (north of Uig)
Portree and its harbor (east coast of Skye)

The Hebrides, seen from Glendale, and dinner at Three Chimneys

My dinner and notes on Aug. 18
I had crab souffé with a parmesan sauce, [and] Skye oysters, so good I could have stopped there; turbot and 3 scallops, and a powerful chocolate gateau (not cake) w/ Amoretto and peach sorbet and a poached pear, very spicy. I could not see a way to improve anything. The amuse gueule was parmesan shortbread followed by watercress soup so thick you could almost eat it with a fork.
Cold and cloudy today but no rain at 9 a.m. anyway.
Note at 6 p.m. We went around the top of the eastern side of Skye, a great success, sun most of the day, a few showers, but a lot of beautiful driving and walking time. Portree was especially lovely in the warm afternoon sun. Having been so wet yesterday we were awfully grateful for this!
